I played guitar by ear for the last thirty years; I decided it was time to learn a little about what I was doing so I didn't have to memorize every single song fret by fret. it's interesting and it gives me something to do at 4am when everyone else is asleep. Piano was such a long time ago that I don't even remember scales, so no trauma there.
