rest for the weary

I just got back from seeing lisagail back off to seattle, sadly, as she had to get back to work today and couldn't stay to give me an excuse not to work any longer. six hours of sleep last night will probably get me through this next cup of coffee before I pass out but first I think I'm going to take some of my graduation dough and buy a new coffeemaker.

my uncle billy sent me a very generous check and I am torn as to what to do with it--I was just saying to myself the other day that a nice gift would be a vet visit for jackson and an ultrasound to make sure his heart is still ok. I'm a little worried because he's been coughing fairly regularly for the past month or so and that can be a sign of congestive heart failure but I haven't been able to afford to take him in for more than a cursory once-over and possibly an x-ray but now with this money I could get him his ultrasound.

thus I think I'm going to get the coffeemaker (with a 20% off coupon!) and maybe one other smallish thing and then call the vet. since this seems to be a sign: I asked the gods for it and they granted it to me.

I will describe graduation in more detail when I am more able to think linearly--although it was a disjointed blur and I guess the order in which things happened is not so important. I had a really nice time altogether and was very happy to see everyone who came by to wish me well, either at commencement or at dinner.

now I have to finish the damned dissertation. I'm kind of locked into it now.

retail: done.

so because I had a car reservation from 6am to noon and although I got back from the airport around 9:30 I went back and got in a different car as someone had taken the one I had been using, and used up the rest of my reservation time at the bed bath and beyond/trader joes/nordstrom rack complex down the street. I swear that next to joshua tree it is one of my favorite driving destinations. there's rainbow grocery too, but I usually walk there although will stop by on the way home if I happen to have a car although I did not do that today.

so I bought this coffee maker for half the list price because bb&b have good prices anyway and then I used the 20% off coupon that they send every household in the US five or six times a week so it turned out to be way cheaper than what cuisinart will charge you if you buy it online from them.

it has a water filter and because I am too lazy to pour brita-filtered water into the coffeemaker I now get filtered water just filling the thing from the tap and I have to say it really does taste better. who knew. of course I was also using a hand-me-down coffeemaker from somebody's office somewhere tangentially connected to sandy as is half the world and who knows when it had last been cleaned so this is a whole new coffee experience for me.

it is, however, putting me to sleep, as caffeine will if you drink it on less than your required amount of prior sleep. which is fine. the weather is relatively cool and I think a crawl back up to bed would be simply delightful.

so I'll see everyone after my nap.

late night

my three-hour nap has about worn off and so I will soon be sleeping for a good 8-9 in a row for a change.

I think I logged in just to say that. there isn't anything else on my mind other than that fresh cup of coffee I'm going to have in the morning from my spanking new coffee maker.

oh. the cuisinart people want me to register my product, not to activate the warranty, but so that I can join the cuisinart 'family.'
