for the last three or four days someone has been regularly setting off some sizable explosives out on the sidewalk. although I am getting used to it, the concussion is so loud that I can't help but jump everytime the things blow. I keep expecting to see a crater out in the street but so far the infrastructure seems to be holding together.

I hope they run out of these things soon. most annoyingly, the other night they were igniting them about every 10 minutes or so between 11 and midnight. this gave me just enough time to relax and drift almost into sleep between each burst, which landed me in that most vulnerable twilight where you no longer possess your ability to make sense of the world but are not so far into sleep that you can shut it out. thus the apocalypse kept replaying itself during that instant between shock and comprehension. very wearing.
