context

so to be explicit, what is happening is that I leave Monday for the Mojave Desert where I am going to be solo camping for about a week and friend b suggested I get a cell phone before heading off for the wilderness so I did but as it turns out I will only be able to use it during those times that I am near the highway.

but I figure I will be near the highway every couple of days so if you find you need to say something to me between Jan 5 and 13 send me a text message using the link on my profile page. I'll see it eventually.

need I mention how badly I need to spend time alone in my tent.

need also I mention that I can't decide whether or not to bring my laptop. on the one hand it would be nice to be able to check my email the two nights I plan on sleeping in hotels but on the other hand I would constantly be worried about keeping it secure while I was, say, hiking. I could put it in the car and lock it to some solid part of the trunk for instance but what if someone came along and took the whole damned car. I mean fuck the car. I would be heartbroken about the computer.

I'm thinking I should leave it here. which of course triggers my anxieties about burglaries and earthquakes.

it could be that I am too attached to this thing but it does, after all, contain pretty much my life.

which reminds me to back up.

anyway.

did I mention I'm going to the desert?
