retroactive gratification

I wonder now why the Turtles Records in Marietta GA even stocked Psychedelic Furs and Public Image albums at the time of their release--who was buying them besides me?--but somehow I miss the excitement of waiting to get enough money and then searching through the bins and then waiting for some more money so you could get the back catalog on newly discovered bands and driving down to Peaches when you couldn't find what you wanted at Turtles or driving all the way to Little Five Points to Wuxtry? was it? or was that in Athens? when you wanted something really obscure whereas now I find someone I like on Aquarius' website, walk the block and a half to their store, and if they don't have what I want in stock why I just go on iTunes when I get back home.

Xiu Xiu is quite wonderful. it took five minutes to download three albums. the thrill of the hunt was over before it quite began.

edit: Wuxtry was in Athens. Wax n Facts was the Atlanta "punk" record store.
