20 pages of Agamben in two hours. it is not all that difficult but I'm reading slowly so as to get the nuances the first time (hopefully, anyway) and to make sure I know where he's going before he gets there. it is becoming clear that I could write my whole dissertation as a response to this book.

I think though I will have to restrain myself to just one chapter as I do still want to get to Gertrude Stein and the ethics of metonymy. there is a way there from Auschwitz but only if I betray a certain something by retaining the disposition to speak. but that's what this is all about anyway: speaking as betrayal.

oof. now will read some normal ethics. see if I can get it out of the way faster--if not, I might have to ignore what the analytic philosophers have to say.
