I wake up with "Morning After" going through my head. you remember that from the Poseidon Adventure, right? it was a hit the year the movie came out and I bought it as a 45 because unlike now then I had no taste.

well that's not true because I was also buying David Bowie and Lou Reed singles but let's just say my taste was not very discriminating. if a song sounded at all sad, I loved it.

I've been downloading bad seventies songs ("The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia." remember that? Vicki Lawrence is a comedian. you think she did that song as a joke and I was too young to get it? I think I only liked this song because it was about Georgia.) and fantasizing about singing one of them at an american idol audition. wouldn't it be cool to go and sing something like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" completely deadpan? I wonder if Simon would get it. is he really british or does he just put on?

so yeah that's the direction of my thoughts this morning. and I hope people are able to get out of the way of Rita and if there are still people stuck on the coast without transportation I hope they make it through ok. I can't imagine the waking nightmare people down there are living right now. it'll happen here sooner or later but if the hurricanes keep battering the southeast there will never be enough survival supplies to put together my earthquake kit.
