emergency emergency 911

this morning we are out of cat food. in a minute I must put on clothes and run out and get some before these poor little guys starve to death. then I will be reading Descartes for a few hours and trying to come up with some compelling way to present him. the difficult thing about starting with a guy like Descartes (or Plato for that matter) is that no one takes these old philosophical arguments seriously even though we still believe in their conclusions some hundreds or thousands of years hence.

I guess that is what is my job to make clear. you might not think you think you are a cartesian subject, but probably, you really do.

well I guess that is as good a place to start as any.

descartes defines the modern us. we are thinking things, mechanistic, and rational. of course, and God made us.

yea, Descartes. his epoche was incomplete. had he truly wanted to bracket everything, he would also have bracketed that he thinks.

but then, you know, i'm quite the cartesian critic.

he is, however, easy to read, IMHO. but then, i am weird.
