piece of ass

ok I have to admit a problem here and that is that Santiago has the absolutely stinkiest anal glands ever. they aren't impacted--they seem to have no problem oozing their bouquet everywhere he goes--but perhaps they are infected. I should take him to the aspca and have them checked out I guess. Jackson, being the big pervert that he is, loves to lick Santiago's stinky ass. I have to say that I don't really mind that much because it does help to keep the smell down.

it comes and goes so it isn't like you can't get near him--just a couple times a day I'll pick him up and go phew and set him back down and tell him to either clean his ass or get Jackson to do it for him.

just now he managed to get a little imprint on my shorts. off with those shorts.

yeah I think I will call the vet tomorrow and see if there is anything wrong with them. I have to hope that there is, because otherwise we have a good 15 to 20 years together and I love him dearly but man.

well, to go into detail, they are two little glands whose ducts are situated at about 10 and 2 o'clock just outside the anus. usually people don't notice them unless they are impacted, in which case the animal spends lots of time dragging its butt across the carpet out of discomfort, or if they are infected, in which case they can smell bad and even cause abscesses.

vet techs are intimately familiar with anal glands in a way we'd rather not be. 'emptying' them is a dicey procedure because although they almost always empty with a slight squeeze, you are never certain which direction the juice will go, what its consistency will be like, and, worst of all, how bad it will smell.

now you know!

oh, feh. poor little kitties, poor vet techs! i'll bet the cats are grateful though to have that taken care of. :P

i asked zack. he said not to worry about it. he seems to be in good working order, pooping wherever he wants onto the carpet as usual.

need another cat?
