earth says om

one of the things about zen I believe is that it teaches you there is no telling what's going to happen next. to drive its point home this 4.4 magnitude earthquake took place in the middle of my meditation. I stopped long enough to see if the rest of the internet had noticed and once I was satisfied they had I went back to sitting.

it felt bigger. lasted about ten seconds which is a long time for the ground to shake. the cats took refuge on high furniture which I'm not sure is the most rational response but what are you going to tell them or rather what will they hear.

scary. i've only felt one temblor (or whatever they're called), back in the early '70s, from the new madrid fault. i was in the bathroom at the dorm, as i recall. ah, seated. interesting effect.

ah my first earthquake here also occurred while I was in the bathroom, seated. I didn't recognize it for what it was because there was a loud BANG and the toilet shifted underneath me so I'm looking around for the anvil having been dropped upstairs or the toilet having fallen off its wax seal when BANG the same thing happens. I was very puzzled until I left the bathroom and my housemates informed me it had been an earthquake.

weirdest earthquake ever.

apparently so. they can do all sorts of weird things, like make your floor roll underneath you like the ocean.

but yeah the BANG earthquake was little, like a 2.2, right off the coast on the san andreas fault. glad it wasn't any bigger than that!
